SyncD Hertigruten Case Study

Case Study

Supporting critical hiring across several departments for a newly established digital function within global travel organisation.

The Situation

Hurtigruten are the world’s leading adventure company, they specialise in small ship land based adventures to more than 250 destinations across 30+ countries whilst being in the top 10 most sustainable company’s on the planet. Hurtigruten are a 130 year old business, who were purchased by a private equity firm back in 2014 & have been going through a huge transformation since.

The business opened a new London Tech HQ office in December 2021, and started working on a greenfield development project name “Project Nellie”. The vision for the Nellie project is to build the leading B2C platform for expedition travel that creates a world-leading experience for their guests and enables Hurtigruten Expedition’s ambitious growth targets.

Our goals were to:
    • Increase the Hurtigruten brand awareness across the UK & Europe
    • Hire critical talent into the engineering teams
    • Support several hires across Design and Marketing functions
    • Collaborate with the hiring managers to shape & define a new digital recruitment practice for the London office

Our Approach

Our Lead talent partner kicked off the project meeting with key stakeholders in the HR/talent team and digital function across Hurtigruten to understand the requirements and develop an efficient recruitment strategy.

Market mapping & candidate sourcing commenced with the hiring of six senior frontend developers for project Nellie reporting into the VP of digital. We were then deployed to in to the product team to support hiring across product and design. Towards the end of the project we transitioned over to Marketing working directly with the Head of Global Marketing to identify several key marketing hires.

During the process we offered market insights around salary and benefits to help the London office define their salary structure. The talent partner also shadowed first stage interviews which resulted in interview tips around techniques and questioning to ensure the interviews were set up for success. We also reviewed the interview process removing unnecessary steps to streamline the process allowing candidates to move through the interviews at pace.

Gerard Short (VP Digital Products)

Hurtigruten were embarking on a large digital transformation programme and required support to find best in class digital talent as quickly as possible. I have worked with SyncD previously at MindGym and knew they could support our hiring demands.

SyncD embedded themselves into our organisation seamlessly and made an immediate impact hiring several critical hires within our engineering team. The talent partner also supported the design team providing support across all design disciplines including marketing. These roles has been open for a long period so were delighted to have them filled so quickly.

In addition they offered consultancy around interviewing processes and direction around salary recommendations to ensure we positioned our bandings to capture the best available talent.
